At only a short one minute, an entombing(dis)entombing by Adam Stone provokes you to reflect on its musings a long while after its final image. an entombing(dis)entombing brings together a relatively simple structure of VoiceOver combined with images. The VoiceOver reads one of Stone’s own poems and imbues the images with intriguing meaning. 

The poem takes the character of a man who builds coffins, eventually entering his own and slamming it shut after arguing ‘his lover out of her reason’ and ‘himself out of all hope’. Self-destruction characterises this character. Alongside images of fences, buildings, high-rises and further urban dwellings we may ask what coffin we have made for ourselves. 

Hope springs forth in the image of the child. A child who breaks coffins and loves ‘with a heart a hundred feet tall’. The differing images of structures and buildings Stone combines with the hopeful ending of his poem opens out intriguing ideas of social utopia in construction. However, do not take my words too literally. an entombing(dis)entombing feels like a film that should be felt not analysed. So forget my words now and allow its sweet brevity to conduct your thoughts. What do you see an entombing(dis)entombing’s ultimate message to be?
